Welcome!

Location: 3201 S Clare Ave, Clare, MI 48617

Mission Base/EOC: Camp Rotary

Commandant: Lt Col Sheila Cerny

Thank you for your interest in the 2024 MIWG SAR Academy. It is one of the most physically demanding, academically stringent, and rewarding activities that Civil Air Patrol has to offer. Whether you are a senior member or a cadet, you will be provided with hands-on Search and Rescue, Disaster Relief, and Leadership training. The knowledge that you will gain, both about CAP’s Emergency Services mission and yourself, will remain with you for the rest of your life. SAR Academy takes place in the woods. Students will spend some nights in the barracks at base camp and some nights in tents and/or constructed shelters regardless of the weather, which can range from the low 40s to the high 90s each day. There are showers and latrines available for participants to use. Cell phones will be collected at sign in, and students may only call home in the event of an emergency. Parents of participants will be provided with a camp telephone number that they may use to contact their cadet in case of emergency as well. The Academy is very demanding, both physically and mentally. The curriculum, facilities, and equipment are constantly evaluated for updates and improvements. The Academy staff are cadet and senior member volunteers who will teach and mentor you for eight full days. Graduates of each of the SAR Academy courses are authorized to purchase and wear the SAR Academy patch on their uniform.
