Guests - Start Here
Hello there! We're glad you're found us and have an interest in the Civil Air Patrol! We get a lot of questions from parents and prospective members about how to learn more about the organization, becoming a member, and joining us for their first meeting. Here's a helpful FAQ guide for your first visit with us!
Do I need to sign up first as a CAP member before coming to a meeting?
No! Contact us first describing your interest in Civil Air Patrol, and we will have you come visit us at one of our squadron meetings. We require prospective members to join us for 3 of our regular unit meetings before we consider prospects to join our unit.
Do I need to wear a CAP uniform a a guest to join in one of the meetings?
No! The U.S. Air Force authorizes only CAP members to wear our uniforms, so non-members are not required or allowed to wear our uniforms before joining.
What should I wear to join a meeting?
No uniform or special attire is required to be a guest. All that we ask is that you dress respectfully and presentably.
Do I need to bring anything?
No! Just be yourself. If you're a prospective cadet, we ask your parent(s) or guardian accompany you to the meetings.
Does a parent or guardian need to stay for the meeting?
We prefer for prospective cadet guests that a parent or guardian stays for the meetings. This gives us a chance to discuss the organization an program from a parental perspective, what to expect, financial considerations, etc.
Does Civil Air Patrol and/or our Unit give flying lessons to members?
Civil Air Patrol is a aviation-minded organization, with the world's largest fleet of single-engine aircraft. We are proud of the work we do in the air and on the ground. With that, our organization does not provide curriculum, nor intend to provide flying lessons or ground school training to cadets and members. However, for cadet members the Civil Air Patrol can provide scholarships and other assistance to make the pathway to earning a pilot's license very affordable. Civil Air Patrol has great programs such as Cadet Wings and National Flight Academies that prepare cadets for aviation careers. Be aware, that these programs and scholarship are competitive, and cadets must be dedicated to the Cadet Program of CAP. Refer to our Cadet Wings program and Cadet Flying page for more information.
